We are back with our first Tweat Up of the summer: TACO WARS. 10 great tacos, 10 great chefs, one great day.
On Saturday 18 May, 2013 we're hosting a competition to find 'Britain's Best Taco' at the Street Feast site in east London. 550 taco fans will come together for great food and drinks, live Mariachi music, tequila and mescal. Once all votes are counted, the winning chef will take home the £2,000 prize and The Cuervo Cup.
The first round of tickets for this event sold out in 12 minutes so chances are you may have missed out. If you did, you can still come along on the day to soak up the atmosphere and make the most of the Rotary Yard Bar (open from noon until midnight). There will be Dogtown hot dogs if you don’t have a Taco Wars ticket and, from 6pm, you'll also be able to buy tacos from some of the competitors for a taster of Taco Wars.
We've got an awesome line-up of competitors. Mexico to Texas, Korea to California, London and Vietnam: Banh Mi 11, Benito's Hat, Breddo's Taco Shack, Buen Provecho, Casa Morita, Kimchinary, LA Sueno, Luardos, Santana Grill and Toma Mexicano.
We've got the bar team from Old Street's Rotary Bar & Diner serving festival-sized cocktails, icy-cold beers and South American wines. There'll be Mariachi music, the Rotary Mobile Margarita Mixing Machine (the greatest drinks serve ever invented) and some under-the-counter mescal going around. For dessert we've got Mexican inspired ice creams on sale from Sorbitium.
The gates open at noon with taco tasting until 5pm. The winner will be announced at 6pm. Follow the action on Twitter via @Tweat_Up.
